Route Overview

This circular 42.2 km marathon weaves through some of North East London’s greenest corridors, taking runners on a scenic tour of reservoirs, woodlands, and parklands. Starting and finishing in Hackney, the route loops north via the Lea Valley, climbs into the forested hills near Loughton, and returns through Woodford, Wanstead Flats, and the River Roding corridor.

Key Route Highlights

• Start/Finish (Hackney Marshes): The race begins and ends on the lush grasslands of Hackney Marshes, offering a flat and fast start.

• Lea River Path (km 0–15): A peaceful and scenic stretch alongside the River Lea and its reservoirs. Expect flat terrain, expansive water views, and wildlife sightings.

• Epping Forest Ascent (km 18–22): The course’s major elevation gain occurs here. A steady climb into the wooded high ground around Loughton brings a mix of trail and tarmac, rewarding runners with panoramic views and shaded paths.

• Forest to Flats (km 22–35): Gentle undulating sections through Buckhurst Hill, Woodford, and Wanstead. The trail moves from forested tracks to suburban greens and quiet backroads.

• Final Stretch (km 35–42): The route re-joins flatter parkland and riverside trails through Wanstead Flats and the edge of the Olympic Park before looping back to Hackney Marshes for the finish.
